Victoria Logo Sand SculptureFounded in 20007, the Warrior's Weekend in Victoria, Texas, is dedicated to the support of veterans of the USA with an emphasis on those wounded in the Global War on Terrorism. The event is held annually with numerous associated events: a poker tournament, a fishing tournament, crawfish festival, even a special night at the local semipro baseball park! But possibly the most visible event is the Field of Honor, where flags are posted

Chapter members of Guadalupe Victoria recently gathered at a local church to make bows for the upcoming Field of Honor.  Over 3000 flags are placed in honor of our veterans’ each year for the Warrior’s Weekend.  The flags are set up at Parkway Church and all are lit at night.  A truly touching site to see!

Flags standing with ribbons on themAt our meeting, chapter members made over 1000 bows in a few hours.  Last year, over 4000 bows were made.  These bows are attached to the flag posts at the Field of Honor.  Blue ribbons are for active service veterans and those who are participating in the local sponsored fishing event in Port O’Connor, Texas.  Black ribbons are for the deceased, yellow ribbons for living Veterans, and purple for those who have been awarded the Purple Heart.

This bow party is sponsored by our Guadalupe Victoria DAR chapter and is organized by our member Betty Pribyl.  GVDAR has been a sponsor for this event for the last nine years. Sponsorship for the flags are $40 for any military veteran.  For information and to sponsor a flag, email fieldofhonor@hotmail.com.

The Field of honor will be set up May 5-28 at Parkway Church, 4802 N. John Stockbauer Drive, Victoria, Texas.  Those who sponsor flags may post it in the field between 9am-1pm, May 5, 2018 at a Flag Posting Ceremony.  The rest of the flags will by posted by volunteers.

We invite other Daughters, local and distant,  to witness this touching, beautiful event for our Veterans.
