Caitriona Lyons at workFor those looking to America for opportunity, Caitriona Lyons, born in Ireland and a naturalized United States citizen, extends compassion, provides empathic support and guidance and she represents hope.  For her many years of dedicated service as she welcomes and supports newly arriving families, Ms. Lyons was awarded the DAR Americanism Medal, an award that recognizes a naturalized United States citizen who has demonstrated the outstanding characteristics of integrity, trustworthiness, and patriotism.  Ms. Lyons was sponsored for the DAR Americanism Medal by the Captain Molly Corbin Chapter and was presented the award at the 2018 State Conference of the Texas Society.

Caitriona Lyons receives awardCaitriona Lyons was employed as the Refugee Program Coordinator for the State of Texas Health and Human Services Commission until her retirement.  She is currently a Board member of the Association of Immigration and Refugee Service Providers; Past National State Coordinator and Past President for the State Coordinators of Refugee Resettlement Association; a public member of the Texas State Bar Advisory Committee on Immigration Affairs; and a member of the Statewide Task Force on Immigration.  The active volunteer and refugee advocate was named the “Outstanding American by Choice” in 2006 by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services.
