The Texas Society Daughters of the American Revolution is proud to announce that the winner of the Outstanding Teacher of American history is Sarah Kotasek. She teaches A/P American History at La Porte High School in La Porte, Texas.  Ms. Kotasek is a third generation teacher and she shares with us memories of being “dragged” to graveyards, museums and historical sights. She is the embodiment of a “whole teacher” in that she not only engages her students on a personal level; she nurtures the strengths they will ultimately share with their communities.  She has made the commitment to give every student the best education possible regardless of ability, social status or language proficiency and consistently takes classes and workshops to find ways to integrate improvements in the classroom.

The Outstanding Teacher of American History in Texas contest honors notable, full time teachers of American History, Social Studies, Government and Citizenship education in grades 6-12.  Texas presents awards for first, second and third place teachers and the dossier for the first place teacher is forwarded to the Historian General for the national competition.

The Jane Long Chapter, Pasadena, Texas, nominated Ms. Kotasek.  State Regent Susan Green Tillman awarded Ms. Kotasek a check in the amount of $1,000.00 and a framed certificate.
